Five Points Gallery will open two concurrent exhibitions, Joseph Saccio’s solo exhibition “Memory, Metamorphosis and Myth,” and “All Things Natural,” a group show. They will run from July 12, 2018, through August 18, 2018.
In the East gallery, “Memory, Metamorphosis, and Myth”, Joseph Saccio’s monumental solo exhibition. The sculptor explains that the idea of three triptychs stemmed from his finding a 20-foot section of an old black oak tree. He divided the hollow trunk into three six-foot segments, then split those vertically. Each six-foot-high segment reveals the old tree’s history. A viewer can walk into the mysterious inner space — like opening a book — and imagine the struggle of living, dying and regeneration.
In the West gallery and TDP gallery, “All Things Natural” is a group show of works focused on the natural world. Albert Einstein advised: “Look deep into nature, and then you will understand everything better.” That the natural world — rivers, plants, trees, landscapes, leaves — continues to inspire artists is the underlying theme that brings together the figurative and abstract works, of the painters and photographers in this show.
The eight artists in the group show are Frank Bramble, Charles Dmytriw, Joan Fitzsimmons, Charles Malzenski, John Swedock and Merle Temkin.
Gallery hours are Thursdays through Mondays, 1 p.m.-5 p.m., and by appointment.
The exhibition is sponsored by Litchfield Bancorp.
