Constance Old:
Phrases in My Head

Artist Constance Old presents her mixed media exhibit “phrases in my head”. The placards in the “phrases in my head” series are based on phrases that occur to her and that she collects on 5 1/2” x 4 1/4” pieces of paper. She chooses a phrase to work with then writes a journal entry about the phrase on claybord. The journal entry works as an armature for an underpainting. Once the underpainting is finished, the letterforms are pieced together from stickers (rows of dots in different colors and sizes) that were originally part of a JCrew store window display. New phrases continue to drift into my head onto pieces of paper, then wait to be made into placards. Read more about our featured artist at her website:
